Stump Grinding in Newcastle, CA

Newcastle still has fruit rows folded into residential lots, which means the stump situation here is often plural.

Instead of one oak in the middle of a lawn, you've got eight or ten small stems in a line where a row of trees used to be, plus whatever's grown up around them. Individually they're quick. As a batch they're a real job, and doing them together while the machine is already set up makes far more sense than picking at them one at a time. The result is a strip you can mow in a straight pass.

Oak on a bank

Where Newcastle lots fall away toward a creek or a drainage ditch, the oak stump is frequently sitting right on the edge of the bank.

We set the machine on flat ground and work in wherever that's possible. We don't perch a grinder on a slope above a creek because the stump would be easier to reach from up there. If the geometry doesn't allow a safe setup, we'll say so on the first look rather than after the trailer is unloaded.

Finding the place, and getting through the gate

Highway 193 is easy enough to find and remarkably easy to blow past the right driveway on. If there's a gate code, a shared drive, or a landmark that's more reliable than the address, give it to us on the phone.

Older Newcastle parcels commonly have a ranch gate at the road and a 36-inch walk gate closer to the house. The walk gate is the one that decides the job, so that's the one to measure.

Everything comes out 6 to 12 inches below grade, same as anywhere else.
